On November 8th, 2009, a well respected Laguna Creek High School graduate was killed in a car crash early in the morning. Braeshaun Jackson, only 19, spent Saturday night at his girlfriend’s house to celebrate their six month anniversary. Jackson was on his way home when he fell asleep behind the wheel of his PT Cruiser and crashed into several trees at the intersection of Whitelock Parkway and Shana Way. Jackson died several hours later.  The sad part is, he was only a few blocks away from his home.

This is significant to a COHS student because we are all getting to that time in life when we are learning how to drive, or are already driving. It just shows that a fatal accident like this could happen to anybody. Jackson’s girlfriend, Ayeshiea Wiley, stated that Jackson seemed very tired. Any student could be having a long study session or an exhausting day. It’s a simple message; don’t drive if you are tired. “If you feel like you are tired at any given time, it’s best to pull off the road and take that time because now he’s going to be asleep forever,” said Valecia Shelby, Jackson’s aunt.

If Braeshaun were to know the words his aunt said before he died, he could’ve  either stayed the night at his girlfriend’s house or pull over for a quick nap. But it’s all too late for that now. The day after this horrific accident occurred, many friends and family of Jackson left many balloons and signs as a memorial and as a lesson to other teen drivers. It is a sad loss for his family and friends and even the community. His family stated that he was always responsible and kind. He might have gone far in life and had a successful career. Braeshaun Jackson will be truly missed.
